TOEFL Exam

The Test of English as a Foreign Language™ (TOFEL) measures the ability of nonnative speakers of English to use and understand English as it is spoken, written, and heard in college and university settings. The TOEFL tests all four language skills that are important for effective communication: Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing. The test helps students demonstrate that they have the English skills needed for success. TOEFL also emphasizes integrated skills and provides better information to institutions about students’ ability to communicate in an academic setting and their readiness for academic coursework. TOEFL will be needed for Education in USA, UK, Canada, and New Zealand.

TOEFL iBT is new version of the TOEFL test. It is an internet based test delivered in secure testing centers across the world.

Well, the answer depends. Usually, many institutions seek some minimum score. It is usually accepted that 70 out of 120 is minimum acceptable score. However, the minimum scores depend on the institution you apply for, your course, and some other factors as to whether you will be a Teaching Assistant. Any score more than 100 is surely respectable score in TOEFL.

Computer based TOEFL test is held all-round-the-year. Unlike other exams, you can choose your own date and time for taking the TOEFL test. September to December is the high season for TOEFL test, so in case you intend to take the test during this period, you need to register very early (say 90 days in advance) to get a date of your choice. Otherwise, registering at least three days in advance is mandatory. The test lasts roughly four hours.

More than 9,000 colleges, agencies and other institutions in over 130 countries accept TOEFL® scores. Other organizations rely on TOEFL scores as well: Immigration departments use them to issue residential and work visas Medical and licensing agencies use them for professional certification purposes Individuals use them to measure their progress in learning English.

The new TOEFL iBT consists of four sections that are designed to measure the basic skills of the language: Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing. All sections are taken on the same day. The entire test is about four hours long. The test is computer based, not computer-adaptive.
